Our Summer Program: Small, Successful And Different

 

We are proud of our summer program and believe it differs from most others. We never lose sight of the purpose of a summer program; namely, to really get to know our summer recruits and to give them an opportunity to really get to know us. Some facts to consider:

 
  • We are very selective about our new hires. We typically hire only one or two summer associates for the summer. We therefore have the ability to make offers of post-graduate employment to all of our summer associates.
  • In order to ensure that summer associates enjoy a balanced experience and receive interesting projects, all assignments are controlled by the same partner, and assignments are given to summer lawyers in the same manner as they are given to permanent associates.
  • Our training does not merely consist of researching and writing. Whenever possible, we also include summer associates in conferences, negotiations, depositions, court hearings, and trials.
  • We pair each summer associate with a permanent associate to serve as a mentor, whose purpose is to provide professional guidance and support.
  • Summer associates interact and work with all partners, including senior partners, as a means of integrating them into the firm. We do not limit summer associates' contacts to selected members of a recruiting committee.
 

Social interaction with partners and associates is also important. Besides lunches and other workday opportunities, we include summer associates in a variety of social activities. We strive to create a family atmosphere in the relationships among our attorneys.
